Playlist - 2/19/2017 - Joe Bussard's Hot Town

Hi Folks.

Jim was away at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival in Massachusetts, so Marti was in the studio to play Sunday's show that Jim had recorded a couple days earlier.

Of course the best laid plans often are not so smooth in execution, and today was no exception as some college sporting event being aired took way too long to conclude.  This took a half hour of our scheduled show time leaving Joe Bussard's portion of the show half-aired.

But thanks to technology, you can still hear all of Joe's 70th program -- a "Hot Town" early jazz episode -- at our on-line archive right here.

In addition to Joe's show, Jim's portion included some Texas Swing music and a nice selection of Jim's 78s.

Tune in next Sunday 2-4 pm ET for another chance to hear America's greatest music on Red Rooster Party.

Playlist - 2/12/2017

Hi Folks.

An early start gave us about a half-hour extra time today for weather-related reasons, and we were very happy to be able to expand our presentation of early country music.

The first half-hour was mostly 78s from Jim's collection followed by an hour of new and reissued early recordings.  The new(er) selections were from Steve Kilby, super guitar picker from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, and The Truffle Valley Boys from Italy.  Other music from this century included a number from the late great fiddler Art Stamper, and the Whitetop Mountain Band.

Joe Bussard presented his 69th show of early country classics.

Tune in next week for Joe's monthly installment of his early jazz show, Hot Town!

Playlist - 2/5/2017

Hi Folks.

We were preempted 45 minutes, but we got all of Joe Bussard's 68th show, and 15 minutes more of great rare music.

Prior to Joe, I played some real Florida blues by Richard Williams, a blues man recorded in 1978 by the Florida Folklife Collection.  The CD is available throught the State Library and Archives of Florida.  Also heard was the flip side of The Bailey Brothers' single "Happy Valley Special" (which Joe play last week) titled "Rattlesnake Daddy Blues."

Then we heard a rare 45 I dubbed from Joe Bussard when I visited last week by The Country Boys -- the pre-1961 name of The Kentucky Colonels with Clarence and Roland White, recorded 1961.

Joe Bussard took it from there.  You can hear his show again at this link.

Tune in next Sunday for another great listen into our musical history.

Playlist - 1/29/2017 - J. E. Mainer, Jr. at 93

Hi Folks.
Jim & J. E. Mainer Jr.

Jim was back from his trip to NC to celebrate J. E. Mainer, Jr's 93rd
birthday with a stop on the return trip at Joe Bussard's place for some great music.  You'll hear more exciting music from the Joe visit in the near future.

The first hour was mostly Jim's 78s featuring a segment of recordings, some composed and all sung, by J. E. Mainer, Jr. during his stints with his father's band, Mainer's Mountaineers.

We also heard early music from Steve Ledford, Dixie Reelers (J. E. Mainer's band when they recorded without J. E. ), The Prairie Ramblers, Bill Monroe, Jimmie Davis, and The Cooke Duet.

Joe Bussard presented his 67th show to great acclaim.  We had more calls and Facebook comments about this show than any we have had so far.  Keep the comments coming, please!

Join Jim next week.  We may be preempted the first hour, but Joe's show will air for sure.

Hi Folks.

This Sunday was Jim's friend J. E. Mainer Jr's 93rd birthday, and Jim was in North Carolina celebrating with the birthday boy.  Marti graciously filled in and owing to the sports preemption, had time to play a few of Jim's 78 transcriptions before Joe Bussard's 66th show aired.

Jim will share some of J. E. Junior's music on the next show.

In the meantime, the playlist is below.

Let us know if you enjoy Red Rooster Party and/or Joe Bussard's show.  Make comments below, or send an e-mail to jbeaverjr@gmail.com
