Playlist - 3/27/2016 - Easter

Hi Folks.

It has been several years since I did an Easter program because of sports preemptions, but we had an opportunity today, and used it.

With the exception of a handful of requests and Joe Bussard's program, the songs I played had some connection to the Easter story.

Perhaps the rarest recording on the show was from a 45 rpm EP of "The Stone Was Rolled Away" from the Sullivan Family, credited to Margie Sullivan.

We hope the show was an inspirational start to your Easter morning.

You can hear Joe Bussard's show by clicking on the link next to his portion of the playlist below.

I'll be back next Sunday at 7am, so be sure to tune in for more early and classic country music.

Playlist - 3/13/2016 - Classic Country 40s-60s

Hi Folks.
Patti Powell

At the urging of some great listeners in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other places, I made most of this show classic country from the 1940s through the 1960s.  Many WWVA Jamboree artists were included such as Skeets Martin, Kenny Roberts, Patti Powell, Doc & Chickie Williams, Elton Britt, Bob Gallion, Howard Vokes, and others.

Joe Bussard presented his 23rd program for Red Rooster Party that included rare New England duo Jerry & Sky and another rare Rich R Tone recording of Smilin'  Jim Eanes. You can hear Joe's show again at the link next to his part of the playlist below.

Tune in next Sunday morning from 7am to 9am for another great listen to America's musical past.

Playlist - 3/6/2016

Hi Folks.

Today was a good day to be on in the early 7-9am time slot because most of the great afternoon programming at WHUS was preempted by sports.

This was mostly a pre-war country show and Joe Bussard brought us his 22nd program for Red Rooster Party.

Doc Watson would have had his 93rd birthday on Feb 25 if he hadn't left us in 2012, so because of his incalculable influence, including what he did for me, I played some of his earliest recordings

Join us next Sunday morning and we'll have another great early country program.  I'm thinking about the classic country period after WW2, so we'll see.

Hi Folks.

The show for this Sunday was pre-recorded by Marti and me because I was in North Carolina celebrating my mom's 90th birthday, and I had been at Joe Bussard's place a couple of days earlier.
Jim's mom and dad in the front row middle surrounded by family

Joe Bussard holding the microphone used
to record John Duffey in the late 1950s
We hope you enjoyed the show, especially since Marti was able to make an appearance.  If you called in, you got to talk to Marti because she engineered the show.

Because Joe Bussard's show for last Sunday was late arriving, we played both his 2/21 show and his 2/28 show for a full hour of 78s from his amazing collection.

We're live next Sunday, so tune it for more great early American recorded music.
