Though we are not on the WHUS schedule now, we will still be doing "fill-in" shows from time-to-time, and this was the first such show. It was also Mother's Day, so we played a round of mother songs that we have not played before.
We visited Connecticut record collector Archie Kneeland earlier in the week and picked up some 78s that we shared on this show. Archie is into country 45s these days, so if you have any to get rid of, contact him or me.
I also got to play my favorite cowboy record of all time which I just acquired this past week: "Lonely Cowboy" by Arthur Miles. Not much is known about Miles as this 1929 record was his only recording, but it is incredible as it features what is known as harmonic singing or throat singing -- a style that is thought to be indigenous to the Asian regions of Mongolia and Tuva. How Miles came up with this style independently may forever be a mystery.
