Playlist for Fill-in - 12/17/2016

Hi Folks.

I did a fill-in for Lady Mystique and her show "For Better Or Worse" Saturday afternoon 1-4pm, and had a great time playing music that was similar to Red Rooster Party, but with much that would not make that show.  This was a great outlet to get some of my lesser-played music on the air.

Thanks to Lady Mystique for the opportunity!

Join me Sunday for another edition of  Red Rooster Party with Joe Bussard's Country Classics on WHUS.

Playlist - 12/11/2016 - Jim & Joe's 78s

Hi Folks.

For today's show I pulled down one box of my 78s randomly, picked about two dozen from the box, and played a track from each for the first hour.  Joe Bussard did the same thing for his part of the show during the second hour.  Only the opening and closing tracks were not from 78s, so this was probably the longest uninterrupted show of only 78s on radio anywhere in decades!

Some of the highlights included Gid Tanner And His Skillet Lickers With Riley PuckettFred Kirby; the B side of the Rambler Trio SuperDisc (Arthur Smith's original Guitar Boogie was on the A side); Tex Ryder and the Texas Tomcats; The Massey Brothers String Band; J. E. Mainer's Mountaineers; and Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Quartet.

Joe's selections on his 60th show for Red Rooster Party included great sides from Ted Gossett's Band; Smith's Garage Fiddle Band; Big Bill [Broonzy] and his Jug Busters; and Lulu Belle and Scotty.

We hope you enjoyed this rare musical journey in our time machine.

Join us next Sunday 2-4pm ET for another two hours of great early American music!   Check out and like our Facebook page here.

Playlist - 11/27/2016 - Early Female Vocalists and Bussard's "Hot Town"

Hi Folks.

The first hour of todays's show included much in the way of early recordings from pioneering female vocalists in country music.  This included The Coon Creek Girls, Rose Maddox, and the popular (judging from the phone calls) DeZurik Sisters.  We also heard more from Washington Phillips and debuted Big Bill Lister on the show with a 1951 recording.

Joe Bussard presented his monthly installment of his early jazz program, a Red Rooster Party exclusive called "Hot Town" and had the joint jumping.

Join us next Sunday for more great early country and gospel, and Joe Bussard returns with his Country Classics.

Hi Folks.

We were pleased to have an uninterrupted two hours to bring you a stack of 45 RPM singles and EPs from my collection, and Joe Bussard's 57th program for Red Rooster Party.

Artists featured from my 45s included Jim Eanes, The Phipps Family, Wayne Raney, and Hack Johnson (with Allen Shelton on banjo.)

Joe pulled out some more impossible rarities including singles from Floyd County Ramblers, Jackson County Barn Owls, and George Edgin's Corn Dodgers.

We hope you enjoyed the show.  You can hear Joe's part again at this link or the link next to his part of the playlist below.

Joe will be doing his "Hot Town" early jazz show next Sunday, so you don't want to miss that.

See you then.
