Playlist - 8/16/2015

Hi Folks.

This week we had Marti back in the studio, but Jim picked most of the music.

We played a good bit of music from Surry County NC and Galax VA, including WPAQ recordings from The Green Valley Boys with Benton Flippen, the Smokey Valley Boys with Benton Flippen, Leake Caudill, John Will and Johnny Vipperman, and The South Carolina Broadcasters (who are from Surry County in spite of their name.)

We also heard music from the director of the American Banjo Museum, Johnny Baier, who is a virtuoso 4-string banjo picker, and Frank Blevins, an Ashe County NC native who had six sides released from recording sessions in 1927 and 1928 when he was 16-17 years old.

We played classic country in much of the last hour with a bit of attention on WWVA artists including Howard Vokes, Bob Gallion, and Patti Powell, as well as some of the Nashville and Bakersfield crowd.

We hope you enjoyed what you heard and tune in next Sunday 2-4 pm.
